Spring in New York transforms the city into a dreamy landscape, and nothing signals the season quite like a cherry blossom bursting into bloom.

When Do Cherry Blossoms Bloom in NYC?

Cherry blossoms in NYC typically bloom from late March through April, with peak bloom usually occurring in early to mid-April. However, the exact timing can vary each year depending on weather conditions and the type of cherry trees.

Where to See Cherry Blossoms in NYC?

Manhattan

Central Park

Cherry Hill

The first to bloom each spring are the Yoshino cherry trees at Cherry Hill.

The San Remo towers framing the background across the lake, a very popular corner of Central Park and worth getting to early.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir

One of the most beautiful and personally my favorite places to see cherry blossoms in Central Park is around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. It’s perfect for not only snapping photos, but also getting a scenic walk as you circle the reservoir during peak bloom.

On a weekday, the path around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir feels quiet and almost surreal, one of those rare spots in the city where you can slow down and just exist for a moment.

NYU/Washington Square Park area

While not cherry blossoms, it would be remiss not to mention the Saucer Magnolia trees at Vanderbilt Hall Courtyard inside NYU School of Law in Greenwich Village.

They bloom around the same time and the courtyard setting with its brick archways, benches, students working outside makes it one of the better spring photo spots in Manhattan that most people walk right past.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

If you’re looking for the best places to witness the delicate beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms without the overwhelming crowds, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a must-visit iconic spots.

Their famous sakura cherry blossom trees line the Cherry Esplanade, creating an unforgettable pink canopy perfect for spring strolls and photo ops.

Before you go, be sure to check the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Cherry Watch Map updated daily to see which trees are currently in bloom.

The cherry blossom garden features 26 unique species of cherry blossom trees, each bloom beautifully during the peak season.

Fort Greene Park

Fort Greene Park is one of the more underrated spots to catch blooms in Brooklyn. Smaller than BBG, no admission, and genuinely quiet on weekday mornings. It has both cherry blossom trees and redbud trees blooming around the same time, plus tulip beds along the main path.

The park has both cherry blossom trees and redbud trees blooming around the same time. The brownstone backdrop makes for a better photo than most people expect.

If you’re going on a Saturday, the Fort Greene Farmers Market runs alongside the park and are worth timing your visit around it. The park is also dog-friendly, which you’ll notice immediately on any morning walk through.

Queens

Hunters Point South Park

The cherry blossoms at Hunters Point South Park are one of the most popular spots in NYC to see these beautiful trees, especially with the skyline stretching across the waterfront.

Roosevelt Island

Just a 15 minute drive from Hunters Point, Roosevelt Island is a perfect side quest for cherry blossom season, where you can sit along the benches and soak in the peaceful waterfront views.
