One of the most viral halal food carts in New York City, Adel’s Famous Halal Food is known for its spicy rice and overflowing lamb and chicken platters. With lines that often stretch down the block and wait times nearing an hour, Adel’s has become one of NYC’s biggest late-night food sensations. In this Adel’s Famous Halal Food review, I’ll share the best way to skip the line and whether this famous halal cart is actually worth the wait.

Is Adel’s Famous Halal Food NYC worth it?

⭐ 4.3/5 — With its beautiful aroma, generous white sauce, and mouth-watering bites, it’s easy to see why Adel’s Famous Halal Food draws massive crowds every night. This popular halal food cart delivers huge portions and excellent value, making it one of the best bang for your buck meals in New York City. That said, I personally don’t think the food is worth waiting over an hour for, which is why I highly recommend pre-ordering through Grubhub to skip the long line.

The Vibe at Adel’s Famous Halal Food NYC

As you first approach Adel’s Famous Halal Food, you immediately notice the massive line and the workers rapidly assembling platters drenched in their famous white sauce. The line at Adel’s honestly needs to be studied, during my first visit it was so long that I ended up leaving because I didn’t want to wait over an hour to eat.

Once I learned how to skip the line at Adel’s Famous Halal Food, I was ecstatic, because very few food experiences have actually been worth a wait that long for me, with Double Chicken Please being one of the rare exceptions. Located across from Radio City Music Hall and near Rockefeller Center, this famous halal cart sits in one of the most accessible and busiest areas in Midtown Manhattan.

What to Order at Adel’s Famous Halal Food NYC

Keeping the menu small and focused on what they do best, Adel’s Famous Halal Food specializes in hearty platters and gyros packed with flavor. I ordered two platters along with a gyro, and my only regret was not asking for extra white sauce and hot sauce. While the food was already satisfying, I feel the additional sauce would have elevated the flavor even more and made the spicy rice and tender meat stand out further.

The Lamb Over Spicy Rice Platter at Adel’s Famous Halal Food was absolutely delicious, with the tender lamb practically disintegrating in my mouth. Paired with their flavorful spicy rice, this platter is a must-try for first time visitors.

The Mix Platter with spicy rice and fries on top is what I would recommend ordering. The combination of juicy chicken and tender lamb creates a filling and satisfying platter. While the fries were a solid addition that added extra texture and helped make the meal even more indulgent, though they aren’t necessarily a must order.

The Lamb Gyro at Adel’s Famous Halal Food was good, but I definitely preferred the platters overall. The gyro was packed generously with lamb and sauce, though it ended up being a bit messy to eat, with nearly half of the filling falling out of the pita before I even took my first bite. While still flavorful and satisfying, I found the platters delivered a better overall experience and value.
