“Such an explosive Mexican flavor?!” — a line I read in an online review about Superbueno, recently ranked the #2 Best Bar in the U.S. by The World’s 50 Best Bars. From the team behind Katana Kitten once crowned the 9th Best Bar in the World Superbueno instantly grabbed my attention. This Mexican-inspired cocktail bar stands out with its vibrant neon lighting that really pops after dark, and playful, unforgettable touches like their Doritos-bagged ceviche. Even better, their earlier opening hours make Superbueno an ideal spot for a daytime drink perfect if you’re into starting the party before the sun goes down.

Ambience

The entire establishment is wrapped in a bold, spicy Mexican aesthetic. The walls are lined with colorful wrestling figurines, and the rustic interiors ooze rich cultural heritage, making it impossible not to feel fully immersed in the Latin American vibe. The service was just as impressive and attentive without being overbearing. The waitstaff checked in on my party frequently and took the time to walk us through the cocktail menu in depth, offering thoughtful explanations and recommendations that elevated the whole experience.

What I Ate at SuperBuenoo

Ingredients

ceviche del dia, cucumber, jicama, tomato, pickle red, onions & hot sauce (d,sf)

Dorilocos was easily my favorite dish I ordered at Superbueno. It packed a bright, citrusy punch and tasted incredibly fresh. The Doritos added a nicely salty crunch that paired surprisingly well with the ceviche, balancing the acidity and making each bite more addictive than the last.

I was a bit disappointed with the Pork Belly Tacos. While they were visually appealing, the flavors were surprisingly mild, and the pork itself leaned on the dry side. Unfortunately, this was one dish I wouldn’t recommend.

The most eye catching dish and the main reason I decided to come was the Fruta Fresca. While the fruit platter itself was perfectly fine on its own, the added sauce felt unnecessary and didn’t contribute much in terms of flavor. The combination ended up leaning a bit too sour for my taste. That said, it did make for a great photo.

What I Drank at SuperBueno

Ingredients

corn whiskey, reposado tequila, roasted corn, guajillo, lemon, egg white (e)

The Smoked Corn Sour cocktail is a citrusy drink with a bit of savoriness to balance it out.

Ingredients

tequila, green mango, mango distillate, sauternes, honey, chili oil

The Green Mango Martini cocktail is a vibrant balance of sweet, tart, and heat. Finished with a whisper of chili oil, the drink delivers a gentle, lingering heat that blooms at the end.

The Takeaway

Overall, while the staff was excellent and the interior décor truly impressed me, I left feeling a bit disappointed. After visiting Double Chicken Please, my expectations for bars and cocktails were definitely raised. If you’re interested in checking it out, going earlier in the day may mean you won’t need a reservation. Otherwise, reservations can be made through Resy. Friendly Reminder to my tall friends, remember to use the restroom before coming. The smallest bathrooms I have ever been in you can barely stretch your arms!
