Vibes
Among the many romantic places in NYC, Atomix shines as a must-visit for couples craving an intimate chef’s counter experience. This 2-Michelin-star establishment, led by Chef Junghyun, welcomes you through a discreet entrance where courteous staff guide you past a chic modern bar—an alternative to the Chef’s Counter with a more accessible tasting menu. Descending a stairwell into a serene, cozy space, I found a counter adorned with vibrant ingredients, each soon explained. Shrouded in anticipation, the calming ambiance sets the stage for one of New York’s best tasting menus, promising an unforgettable evening.

The Prelude: Ingredients, Intentions & First Sips
Before embarking onto the actual chef’s counter, Chef Junghyun’s team set the stage with an intimate ingredient showcase. The staff began by presenting pristine ingredients—caviar, succulent shellfish, vibrant seasonal vegetables, and premium beef, alongside glass vials of infused oils and vinegar. Our host offered a complimentary taste of a fragrant-infused oil, its citrusy brightness heightening. This thoughtful prelude set high expectations for an incredible evening.

What I Ate
Seated at the intimate chef’s counter, I felt the magic of Atomix unfold as the team introduced themselves with warm precision. In a Harry Potter-esque moment, I was invited to choose my chopsticks—opting for sleek brown. As the first course of my NYC food bucket list took shape, the staff showcased luxurious ingredients: fragrant truffle nestled in rice and vibrant blue crab arranged artfully in a bowl, each a promise of the exquisite flavors to come.

The Lamb Saddle was very tender, with a deep, gamey flavor elevated by the earthy gosari and nutty perilla seed. A touch of peppery, citrusy zing. Alongside it, the Dureup Rice brought a bitterness with a briny flavor.

Desert had now arrived, and the Tangerine Marshmallow was airy and bright. Bursting with citrusy sweetness, the dashima added a savory echo that grounded the sweetness, adding a bit of salty flavor.

Being already completely stuffed, Chef Junghyun added a second dessert, Black Chestnut with Doraji Chocolate, which offered a deep, roasted sweetness, while the doraji chocolate added a bitterness. It was a modern dessert that was a delicious finale to a fantastic meal.
